On this date in 1986, after at 13-year gap, Phil Lesh dusted off his vocal chords and sang Box of Rain!

  • One of the Grateful Dead's most beloved songs that serves as track #1 of their most beloved 1970 album American Beauty

  • Written by Lesh and Robert Hunter to and for Phil's ailing father

  • The song was shelved way back in 1973 due to Phil's vocal chord damage

  • Hampton Coliseum sound captured and shared by Kyle Holbrook and his Executive Crew

  • Also the last song the Dead played in concert (Soldier Field 7/9/1995)
